Elena Yoncheva announced that she accepts the nomination for MEP made by DPS-Blagoevgrad.

“For me, this is recognition for everything I have achieved in the European Parliament for Bulgaria,” Yoncheva told BTA. And thanks to the structure of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms.

“As I have said publicly more than once, the decision whether I will run depends on whether I can continue the battles that I have fought for the last five years for my country and whether I will get support for it, namely – stopping uncontrolled migration; stopping human trafficking (sewage); working measures against corruption at national and European level; protection of journalists from censorship and political persecution”, noted Yoncheva.

She pointed out that as an MEP she managed to make a breakthrough on a number of topics. “I conducted negotiations on the overall legislation in the Migration Pact as the group’s chairman, with the representatives of the European Commission and the Council. After five years, the pact was accepted. It cancels the Dublin Regulation, which is unfair to Bulgaria, and will help reduce uncontrolled migration,” Yoncheva said.

“We started working on legislation that would effectively limit human trafficking,” she recalled.

“I also supported the proposal to guarantee transparency of media ownership and financing and the protection of journalists from censorship,” Yoncheva also said. Social networks, in her words, will no longer be able to download quality media content.

“I will accept support for participation in the European elections, which would allow me to continue working on these important topics for Bulgaria, support which would give me the freedom to defend them”, emphasized Elena Yoncheva to BTA.

The DPS-Blagoevgrad announced on Monday that at the meeting of the Party’s Regional Council, a decision was made to include Elena Yoncheva among the candidates nominated for members of the European Parliament. In the current European Parliament, she is an MP from the BSP in the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.
