Levski is just one win away from ending its 15-year drought without a title in the men’s volleyball championship. In the second match of the final series, Levski won 3:1 (25:20, 30:28, 19:25, 25:22) the game as a guest of CSKA and led with 2:0 victories. The “Blues” can close the series already on Friday if they win in their own hall “Levski Sofia”.
The match at the “Hristo Botev” Hall in Studentski Grad took place in a wonderful atmosphere created by the CSKA supporters, but they were left disappointed, as Levski showed much more arguments to take the victory.
The “Blues” entered the match better and managed to lead in the middle of the first game with 15:11 points. CSKA equalized at 18:18, but a new scoring streak by the guests allowed them to win the first game 25:20.
In the second game, Levski continued to lead the game and Nikolay Zhelyazkov’s volleyball players came out ahead with 19:12. They also had five gameballs at 24:19, but with very good service and defense, CSKA pulled away and brought the score to 24:24. The “Reds” also had a game ball at 27:26, but then Simeon Nikolov, with several key actions, allowed Levski to make a new turn to close the game with 30:28 after a block by Svetoslav Gotsev.
CSKA played their best volleyball in the third game. In it, the “reds” opened a solid gap at the beginning and won it with 25:19.
The hosts started better in the fourth game as well, taking a four-point lead at 17:13 at the half. However, then came very strong minutes for Vladimir Gharkov, who turned the course of the match with his serve. A point of contention was put by Alejandro Toro, who brought victory to the “blues” with an attack from the zone of two.
The top scorer for Levski was Venislav Antov with 16 points, and Vladimir Gharkov added 15. Svetoslav Gotsev finished with 11 points.
For CSKA, Strahinja Burzakovic topped everyone with 24 points, and substitute Jorge Garcia added 11 more.
