Georgi Asparuhov Stadium will become the property of the Metropolitan Municipality, which means that another step will be taken towards the reconstruction of the sports facility. The Architectural Commission of the Metropolitan Municipal Council made a unanimous decision on the transfer of ownership from the Regional Administration to the municipality.

On Thursday, it is expected that the decision will be formally voted on at the SOS meeting. The proposal was submitted to the agenda as an additional item by the mayor Vasil Terziev, the chairman of the SOS Tsvetomir Petrov, the chairman of the sports commission Dimitar Shalafov and Proshko Proshkov, who is the chairman of the standing committee on economics.

For many years, Levski has been trying to settle the issue with the complex, and in addition to the stadium, the decision also includes all the adjacent halls.

The status of “Georgi Asparuhov” was last regulated in 1998 with an act for free use. In January of last year, the Ministry of Youth and Sports initiated the issue of the concession, but it was necessary for the site to pass into the possession of the Metropolitan Municipality.

This transfer of ownership enables a future long-term concession for the football club.

At the moment, Levski pays the building tax and garbage fee, which were owed to the municipality, but a few days ago a decision was made to reschedule obligations of over BGN 2 million.

The SOS made an important decision about Levski’s debts

With the signed contract, the football club will now be able to apply for a concession.

At the beginning of the year, Levski announced the establishment of the company “Georgi Asparuhov Stadium”, whose goal is “to work actively to improve the overall infrastructure of the club, including the implementation of the most important step related to the development of Levski, and namely: construction or complete reconstruction of a football stadium meeting the high standards and expectations of the “blue” supporters”.

The last new step, as the company has already submitted documents to the regional administration and the Ministry of Sports to start a procedure for establishing a free right to build a stadium.
