“If there is no epidemic situation introduced, then vaccinating babies at a younger age is a replacement of the current regulation. For this, operational time is needed, the opinion of the expert council on immunizations, perhaps also the expert council on pediatrics, must be heard.” Epidemiologist Prof. Todor Kantarjiev commented on this to bTV.

“There is a period of public discussion, in which the regulation and its change will have to be presented publicly and the opinions of medical groups, parent organizations, interested parties will have to be heard. Hasty things were said,” he also pointed out.

“Whether the vaccine will be administered at a month and a half or two, it does not matter so much. I’ve been warning about whooping cough since last year. The most important thing is to protect the newborns,” said Prof. Kantarjiev.

According to him, untrue things were said about the antibiotics – that they did not work.

“According to the Stockholm Center for Disease Control, the cure for whooping cough is an antibiotic, but it should be given early. Giving an antibiotic two weeks after the appearance of a coughing fit has no effect. Therefore, an antibiotic should be given early, according to epidemic indications”, pointed out Prof. Kantarjiev.

He also commented on antibiotic prophylaxis.

“If it turns out that vaccinated children are carriers, they can take one,” the expert pointed out.
