The US Department of Defense announced the beginning of the arms transfer to Kievafter President Joe Biden signed the military aid bill of Ukraine, reports “Reuters”.

“This announcement is the 56th tranche of equipmentwhich the Biden administration will provide to Ukraine from Defense Department stockpiles beginning in August 2021. The package is valued at $1 billion and includes funds to address Ukraine’s most pressing needs, including air defense systems, artillery shells, armored vehicles and anti-tank weapons“, the Pentagon said in a statement.

The first package, in particular, will include RIM-7 and AIM-9M missiles for air defense systems, missiles for MANPADS Stingersmall arms and ammunition, including anti-drone, ammunition for MLRS HIMARSartillery shells 155mm and 105mmInfantry Fighting Vehicles Bradleyanti-tank systems Javelin and AT-4, precision aviation munitions, anti-personnel mines, devices for night vision and other equipment.

The package also contains airport maintenance equipment which can also signal transfer of aircraft in Kiev.

“This package will allow the transfer of ammunition, weapons and equipment to support Ukraine’s ability to defend its front line, defend its cities and counter ongoing Russian attacks,” the statement added.
