Arne Slott is starting to look like Liverpool’s surefire new manager and successor to Jurgen Klopp, who is leaving at the end of the season.

Two days ago, all the media on the Island came out with the news that the Dutchman is another favorite #1 for the post, and he himself has already admitted that there are negotiations.

Initially, the negotiations are at club level because Arne Slott has an active contract with the still current Dutch champions Feyenoord, for which the club will have to receive financial compensation.

Slott himself hinted ahead of Feyenoord’s game against Eredivisie side Howe Ahead Eagles last night that he was open to a move to Liverpool, but at this stage nothing depends on him.

“I can only say that at the moment the two clubs are negotiating. I’m just waiting for the next phase, at the moment nothing depends on me”, said Slot on the subject.

He also added that he is confident in reaching an understanding between the clubs, which was a clear signal that once there is a “green light” from Feyenoord, then Arne Slott will also give his consent to Liverpool.

The 45-year-old Slott, who as a footballer wanders between the first and second levels of Dutch football, took up coaching in 2016, when he led the team of Cambur.

Several seasons followed as an assistant in AZ, before Slott stood at the head of the team and, contrary to all logic, became a champion. The team he led shared the top of the Eredivisie standings with Ajax before the pandemic interrupted the championship and then the authorities made the decision that there would be no Dutch champion for 2020.

In 2021, Arne Slott took over Feyenoord and at the end of the season played in the Conference League final, which the giants from Rotterdam lost to Mourinho’s Roma.

A year ago, Slott’s Feyenoord became the champion of the Netherlands, and this season also lifted the Cup – three seasons with two trebles and one European final.

He already had offers from England in the summer when he was wanted as the new manager of both Tottenham and Leeds, but then Slott refused to leave Feyenoord.

It is no secret that he is the third candidate to succeed Klopp, after the first option Xabi Alonso, and the second Ruben Amorim, proved unsuccessful.
