Aleksandar Georgiev made 16 saves but allowed seven goals and the Colorado Avalanche lost 6-7 to the visiting Winnipeg Jets in the first game of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League of the United States and Canada (NHL).

Kyle Connor and Adam Lowry each scored twice against the Russian goaltender with Bulgarian roots, and Mark Scheifeli had a goal and two assists for the Jets. Connor Hellebuyck blocked 40 shots on goal for Winnipeg, which ended the regular season with an eight-game winning streak.

Cale Makar had a goal and two assists for a Colorado team that lost all three regular season games against the Jets by a 4:17 goal difference. The next meeting is on Tuesday in Winnipeg.

Pius Zuter and Dakota Joshua scored in a span of 12 seconds midway through the final period and the Vancouver Canucks recorded a 4-2 victory over the Nashville Predators in the first game of another NHL Western Conference series.

It was the fastest two goals in the playoffs in Canucks history, with Joshua scoring once again and the final goal coming from Elias Lindholm. Thatcher Demko saved 20 shots and was beaten only by Jason Zucker and Ryan O’Reilly.

Matt Rempi and Artyomi Panarin scored 33 seconds into the second period to give the New York Rangers a 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals in Game 1 of an Eastern Conference playoff series. Igor Shestyorkin made 20 saves for the win.

Carter Verhegy scored the game-winning goal early in the final period and the Florida Panthers won 3-2 against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Sam Reinart and Matthew Tkachuk were also accurate for the success, and Sergey Bobrovsky blocked 17 shots.
