David Benavidez (28-0) will make perhaps one last defense of his status as a mandatory contender for the WBC super middleweight title before finally getting the chance to fight Saul Alvarez. The 27-year-old Latin American will enter the ring on June 15 against Oleksandr Grozdik (20:1), betting on the intermediate belt.

Benavidez earned his status in May 2022 when he knocked out David Lemieux in 3 rounds and then outpointed Caleb Plan in March 2023. He last fought Demetrius Andrade in November to add another knockout to his tally you are.

Grozdik, for his part, shook off his first career defeat against Artur Beterbiev at the end of 2019 with three meetings against non-top seeds in Josue Obando, Rickards Bolotniks and Isaac Rodriguez. In doing so, all three were overcome within 2023 after two and a half years out of the ring for the experienced Ukrainian.

The fight with David Benavidez is one last chance for Oleksandr Grozdyk to try to reach the top of the super middleweight division.

Their match will be part of the card for the return of Gervonta Davis. He will fight Frank Martin to try and make another defense of the WBC lightweight title.
