The Ukrainian aid payment will not happen today. This was announced by Simeon Karakolev, co-chairman of the National Sheep and Goat Breeding Association (NOKA).

On this occasion, a meeting between branch organizations and Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev will be held on Wednesday, April 24.

According to Karakolev, at the meeting it will become clear how the state will deal with this critical moment for the agricultural sector. After the meeting with the Prime Minister, the organizations that attended the meeting with the Prime Minister are expected to hold Management Councils and come up with a decision.

What happened?
The decision for Bulgarian farmers to receive Ukrainian aid came after a series of protests that farmers organized. The protests ended precisely after the signing of an agreement with the then Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov in February 2024.

One of the points in the agreement states the reception and disbursement of funds under the so-called Ukrainian aid. And so it happened – the notification for the aid was sent to Brussels at the end of February 2024. And at the end of March 2024, the reception started and ended on April 9.

Until today, April 22, 2024, was the deadline given by the Department of Agriculture and the “Agriculture” Fund for disbursement of funds to farmers.

Subsequently, it became clear that the necessary budget has not been secured and no money has been provided for the farmers at the moment.

“This is sabotage to the entire agricultural sector. Seen from the current situation, it is a ticking time bomb.” Simeon Karakolev is categorical.
