Maritsa Plovdiv’s team triumphed with the women’s National Volleyball League (NVL) title for the tenth year in a row after success in the final series against CSKA with 3-0 victories without losing a single game.
This was the third consecutive season in which the girls from Plovdiv faced the “reds” in the dispute for the gold medals in the home championship, and once again Borislav Krachanov’s girls did not leave any chances to their opponent, outplaying him convincingly in all three matches.
It all started in Plovdiv’s “Strength” hall on April 17, when the “yellow-blue” prevailed with a 3:0 (25:19, 26:24, 26:24) game. After convincingly winning the first part, in the next two Marichankas met serious resistance from the CSKA team, but in the decisive moments, Yulia Ivanova-Mincheva’s girls did not show enough composure and in the end did not manage to win even a set.
The next day – April 18 – Maritsa’s athletes again controlled the events on the field for large periods of the match and achieved another clear success with 3:0 (25:19, 25:23, 25:15). Similar to the first meeting, the “reds” were again on par at times, but at the end of the games their inaccuracies made the difference in the match, after which the champions already had a 2-0 lead in the title fight.
For the third match, the series moved to the “Hristo Botev” hall in Sofia, where, however, the support from the stands failed to help CSKA. Maritsa Plovdiv played perhaps its most convincing match since the beginning of the dispute for the gold medals and did not leave any chances to the women from the capital city, outplaying them once again with a 3:0 (25:17, 25:20, 25:15) game, which also brought title #10 in the showcase of Plovdiv girls.
