Today is the third day of the Young Blue Earth Youth Creativity Festival at the Natural History Museum

This is the strongest edition of the festival since its creation 9 years ago until today, commented the director of the museum
International Earth Day is celebrated around the world on April 22. The aim is to remind the international community of the direct interdependence between man, the planet and its ecosystems. The official celebration of April 22 as Earth Day took place for the first time in 1990, when an initiative committee chaired by Dennis Hayes (USA) began an active campaign to protect nature. That same year, Earth Day was celebrated by more than 200 million people in 141 countries. Over the past years, April 22 has become the largest non-religious holiday in the world, celebrated by over half a billion people. Bulgaria was among the first countries in the world, which already in 1990 joined the celebration of April 22 with various initiatives.

Regional Museum of Natural History – Plovdiv celebrates the holiday with a series of initiatives on April 20, 21 and 22, part of what has become a traditional Festival for youth creativity “Young Blue Earth” at the Museum of Natural History.

In the festival, which is being held for the 9th time, children and youth from 5 to 18 years of age participate, who present their talented works and performances in the categories “Fine Art”, “Music” and “Dance”. The participants are divided into age groups (up to 10 years and over 10 years) and are evaluated by a specialized jury in the respective fields.

Performances in the “Music” and “Dance” categories will take place in the museum lobby today between 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., the museum reminds. The award-winning works of the participants in the category “Fine Art” are exhibited in the museum building during the event, and the theme this year is “Water gives energy”.

The third and final day started today with the educational game “Treasure Hunt”. The classes on “Recycling and environmental protection” continue until noon. These include a talk, a quiz to test your knowledge and a game related to recycling materials and waste.

Until 5 p.m., the “Lively Exhibition” of “Green Balkans” can be viewed in the “Botany” hall. A specialist from the organization will introduce visitors to interesting bird species. The exhibition marks 10 years since the return of the white-billed kestrel to our country.

A music and dance program of children from Plovdiv kindergartens, schools and community centers continues in the lobby of the museum until 4:30 p.m. From 3:00 p.m., ninth-graders from SU “Lyuben Karavelov” will present the digital exhibition of the mammal and bird exposition through QR codes made by them and will be tour guides in these halls.

Again today, from 4:00 p.m., students from the seventh grade of “Lyuben Karavelov” Secondary School will present an interdisciplinary lesson on the topic “Herbs in Bulgaria”, together with a herbarium and an interactive map created by them in the continuation of Google earth in the “Planetarium” hall.

I am very happy that more and more children are happy to participate, and their parents and teachers strive to form in the children a new attitude of love for nature and concern for its survival”commented the director of the museum, Dr. Ognyan Todorov.
