Trump is accused of engaging in an illegal conspiracy to undermine the integrity of the 2016 election and an illegal scheme to suppress negative information that included paying an adult movie star hush money to cover up an affair.
Prosecutors say Trump disguised the deal as a legitimate payment and repeatedly falsified business documents to “promote his candidacy.” Trump has been charged with 34 counts of falsifying business documents.
David Packer, former chairman of American Media Inc., which publishes the National Enquirer, will be the first witness called by the district attorney’s office, according to CNN.
