British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will arrive today in Poland, where he will announce the largest military aid package for Ukraine in history, UNIAN reported. In Warsaw, he will discuss with Prime Minister Donald Tusk and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg the threat from Russia and Britain’s efforts to support European security. He will then travel to Berlin to meet German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
“The £500m extra funding announced today, which will take UK military aid to Ukraine this financial year to £3bn, will be used to rapidly deliver urgently needed munitions, air defences, drones and engineering support.” , the statement said.
The Defense Department will also send the largest arms package in history, designed to help repel a Russian invasion by land, sea and air. It will include:
- 60 craft, including seaport craft and diving boats, as well as naval guns;
- over 1,600 attack and anti-aircraft missiles, as well as additional high-precision long-range Storm Shadow missiles;
- more than 400 vehicles, including 160 Husky protected mobile vehicles, 162 armored vehicles and 78 all-terrain vehicles;
- about 4 million small arms rounds.
“Defending Ukraine from Russia’s brutal ambitions is vital to our security and to all of Europe. If Putin is allowed to succeed in this war of aggression, he will not stop at the Polish border. Ukraine’s armed forces continue to fight bravely, but they need our support — and they need it now,” Sunak said.
