April is reading month again!

And this year, on April 23 (International Book and Copyright Day), we celebrate books and reading people in an initiative born in Varna, which has now become a national campaign. The 22nd edition of the “Reading People’s Marathon” takes place under the motto “Literature meets images” and seeks the connections between the spaces of imagination that the literary text constructs and the interpretations of cinema, theater and scenography that shape the physical environment. Directors, screenwriters, illustrators and researchers of literature and theater are guests.

The marathon reading starts at 8.30am in the Main Building of the Varna Library and will focus on favorite books interpreted by the performing or visual arts. The highlights of the program are varied and everyone will certainly find something interesting for themselves – from the funny Varna periodical to a film lecture dedicated to Edgar Allan Poe, to the marathon premiere of “A Tale of the Library”.

The marathon will be officially closed at 18.00 with an open discussion on the topic “The original or the adaptation?”. With the guests Petar Denchev (writer and theater director), Temenuga Stancheva (artist and scenographer) and Ognyan Kovachev (educator and culturologist), we will discuss whether we can talk about adaptation from art to art and what nuances the expressive means of each one of them bring.

The reading scenes and events are open to all friends and admirers of the “Pencho Slaveykov” Regional Library, and the full program can be found on the library’s website www.libvar.bg.
