Benfica achieved an expected win away to Firenze in the 30th round of Liga Portugal. Artur Cabral scored twice for the Lisbon Eagles, who are second in the standings but a full seven points behind almost certain champions Sporting.
Firenze didn’t put up much resistance, although he did equalize briefly midway through the first half. Jose Motta’s team is in 10th position in the standings with an asset of 31 points, the same as Rio Ave and Gilles Vicente.
Orkun Kökçu gave Benfica the lead in the 16th minute after a good cross from Alexander Ba. Firenze responded with a goal from Mohamed Bellumi (23′), but very soon Artur Cabral sent the ball into the home team’s net, again after an assist from Ba.
The intrigue ended in the 67th minute when the young Alvaro Fernandez scored his first goal for the Benfica team. He received a pass from Angel Di Maria, overcame a defender and with a solid shot stretched the net for 3:1.
