The residents of the town of Debelec are adamant that they do not want a facility for the storage and processing of bird manure to be built near their homes.
Local people fear that apart from environmental pollution, the area will also have an unbearable stench.
The investment intention was submitted to the town hall by a company that has a poultry farm in Debelets.
“This worried the citizens extremely much, and I, as the mayor, was obliged to study the public attitudes regarding this investment intention. We held a city-wide meeting, at which all present – the residents of Debelec said clearly, unanimously and categorically “no” to the construction of this object. I hope that from now on, the decisions of the institutions and their opinions – Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo, RISV will be objective and the opinion of the citizens of Debelets will not be ignored”, explained the mayor of Debelets Snezhana Parvanova.
According to the project, the farm will be about 1.3 km from the city, and a cake that will be processed every day is about 32 tons.
“We look after laying hens. Until now we have not had a station where we can dry cake, we developed this project so that we can store cake and sell it as pilitized. This is just our manure. It is wrongly spread that we will we also store bird manure from neighboring sites. The cake will only be processed, it will be dried so that it does not smell. This is done so that it does not travel by trucks in the country, because now we drive it to Montana, where biofuel is produced from the waste. There is a very big problem with smells in Veliko Tarnovo, but it is because of the fertilization of the fields. The smell is not from us,” explained investor Kalina Shirokova.
She claims that three special filters will be installed that will stop the smells.
However, the people of Debelec said they will do everything possible to stop the project. They are ready for effective protests with road closures. They are categorical that they are not against the discovery of such a site, but insist that it be at least 30 km from Debelec.
