Meglena Plugchieva resigned last night as foreign policy advisor to Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev. she herself announced to Epicenter.bg.
The reason – disagreements with the Prime Minister regarding the personnel management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A week ago, Glavchev released Stefan Dimitrov, whom he personally invited as foreign minister. After that, Glavchev focused on Daniel Mitov and made a proposal for him to Radev, but Radev made it clear that he would not sign the decree because he is a prominent political figure. Finally, Glavchev proposed himself as foreign minister and Radev issued him a decree.
Meglena Plugchieva, who is a long-time diplomat with experience, is offered the prime minister a career diplomat to take over the post of foreign minister. Glavchev’s decision to personally head diplomacy was met with criticism from both the president and the guild. But Glavchev did not comply with this. PPlugchieva’s position was that in an official government one should bet more on experts and not on politically colored people. That is why she herself refused to become foreign minister, although it was offered to her.
According to Plugchieva, it is not possible in the conditions of war, crises close to us and difficult elections for one person to combine the two posts – both prime minister and foreign minister. This is not possible!
Plugchieva emphasizes that this situation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not present Bulgaria in a good light abroad. Our country is relieved at a time when it should have a clearly defended position on important national issues.
