The Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment against Vasil Bozhkov and officials from the State Gambling Commission – Bulgaria

The Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office (SGP) submitted an indictment to the Sofia City Court (SGS) in pre-trial proceedings for an organized criminal group created for the purpose of extortion, official and corruption crimes, the state prosecution announced on its website.

Ten persons were brought to court – the businessman Vasil Bozhkov as the organizer and head of the group, and the remaining nine persons named by the prosecutor’s office only with initials – A.G., G.P., A.T., B.B., O. .M., T.M., P.G., E.D. and J.C. – as participants in it, some of them in the capacity of officials from the State Commission on Gambling, specified BNT.

Criminal proceedings were initiated in the now-closed Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in 2019 in connection with data on a criminal group that aimed to commit official and corruption crimes. Officials from the closed State Gambling Commission (SGA) also participated in the group.

Bozhkov was brought to court as an instigator in complicity with officials from the Gambling Commission, who committed a breach of their official duties – they allowed themselves not to be charged and not collected in full due fees under the Gambling Act. As a result of the criminal activity, damages were caused to the state budget in the amount of BGN 559,739,164.70, the prosecutor’s office announced. The SGS is about to schedule an administrative meeting.
