The Ministry of Health will allow the first pertussis immunization to be administered one and a half months after the baby is born. Until now, it was applied after the second month according to the Immunization Calendar. This was decided at a meeting between acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, Minister of Health Galya Kondeva, Deputy Minister of Education Emilia Lazarova and Chief State Health Inspector Assoc. Angel Kunchev.
The Council of Ministers explained that the reason for the decision is the data that currently the most registered cases are those under the age of 1 year and complications in newborns are more common. Minister Kondeva has assured that the situation is being monitored continuously, and the increase in morbidity is not a surprise. According to her, “such peaks are usually observed in a period between 3 and 5 years”.
The meeting also discussed the organization in kindergartens and schools, so that children with symptoms of whooping cough are not admitted.
