LIVE: We have enough vaccines against whooping cough for babies, the health minister assured – Around the world and in our country

There are 314 cases of whooping cough in our country since the beginning of the year. This was reported by the Acting Minister of Health, Dr. Galya Kondeva, to the Health Committee in the Parliament.

Sofia has the most cases – 214. There are registered cases in 17 regions of the country.

Dr. Kondeva assured that the warehouse of the Ministry of Health has enough vaccines for children from 2 months to 2 years. According to her, the immunization coverage in our country is over 90%.

According to her, there is currently no need to change the immunization calendar for the introduction of earlier immunization for babies. The measure could come into force if a Pertussis outbreak is declared.

Over 750 doses of vaccines are provided in the pharmacies.

The Ministry of Health expects the expert council to issue an opinion on pertussis vaccination for pregnant women.

The Health Committee is holding an extraordinary meeting due to the increase in cases of whooping cough. In addition to Minister Kondeva, the chief state health inspector Assoc. Angel Kunchev, the heads of the Executive Agency “Medical Supervision” and the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases were also invited to the hearing.
