Nearly 500 competitors from 17 countries took part in the “John Atanasov” International Advanced Informatics Tournament in Shumen, whose competition days were April 19 and 20.

Computer scientists from Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Egypt, Israel, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Pakistan, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine demonstrated their knowledge in the field of competitive informatics, while participants from Belarus competed under a neutral flag , Russia and Tatarstan.

362 young computer scientists competed online, and 119 computer scientists from Bulgaria, Romania and Bosnia and Herzegovina solved their tasks in person at Shumen University, the winners received their medals at the ceremony in the hall of the Youth House.

In the junior age group, 15 competitors won the gold. In senior age, 22 computer scientists won gold medals. Once again, the most distinguished among the Bulgarian seniors is Daniel Koinov from Shumen, who won a gold medal.

“There is no easy medal, you always have to give your all, so I can’t say there is an easy medal. The preparation for the tournament is no different from any other competition. It’s always the same – hard training in the last weeks before the competition. Everyone knows that this preparation is not only the race, but it is all the time. As for my efforts, at the moment I continue to fight for the Bulgarian national team. At the moment I’m in first place, but there are still two controls, so we’re waiting for them to pass and we’ll see,” said Daniel Koinov.

“Bulgarian competitors won five gold and about 30 silver and bronze medals at the John Atanasov International Advanced Informatics Tournament in Shumen, showing once again that Bulgaria is among the world powers in competitive informatics,” said the chairman of its organizing committee committee Dr. Biserka Yovcheva and added that in the senior team for Bulgaria, in addition to Danail Koinov from Shumen, Boris Mihov, Andrey Stefanov and Veselin Markovich from Sofia also won gold medals, the same four team athletes were ranked first at the Zhautikov Olympiad in Kazakhstan. “In the younger age group, Denislav Manev won a gold medal for Bulgaria,” she added.

The tournament was held under the patronage of the President Rumen Radev and the rector of Shumen University “Ep. Konstantin Preslavski” Prof. Dr. Natalia Vitanova.
