Another court session in New York will begin with consideration of Donald Trump’s social media attacks on witnesses in the criminal trial against him.

The court must consider whether Trump should be charged with contempt over a series of posts on his Truth Social social network. Prosecutors say that by doing so, the former US president violated a non-disclosure order issued by the judge in the case, Juan Murchan, which prohibits him from publicly attacking witnesses and jurors.

The DA’s office is asking for a maximum fine of $1,000 for each of the 10 posts that allegedly violated the order, and for Trump to remove them from his social media platform. The prosecution will ask the judge to warn Donald Trump to refrain from any future violations as he risks not only additional fines but up to 30 days in jail.

Yesterday, Trump’s prosecution and defense presented their case. The payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about her alleged affair with Trump was an illegal conspiracy to undermine the integrity of the presidential election, according to prosecutor Matthew Colangelo

“No politician wants a bad image in the press, but the evidence at trial will show that this was not a stunt or a PR strategy, but a planned and coordinated, long-term conspiracy to influence the 2016 election.”

For their part, Trump’s defenders have said that he did not commit a crime and that the Manhattan district attorney should not have brought this charge in the first place.
