Laity from Burgas have united in an association, on behalf of which they will send a declaration to the Synod, with which they declare themselves against the list of candidates for Metropolitan of Sliven. They are considering notifying the parliamentary committee on religious denominations as well.

The laity are also angered by the speech of Metropolitan Antony in the studio of “The Day Begins”that those removed from the list of candidates do not have the necessary qualities, and Hierotei should have distanced himself from the protests.

The association is adamant that if a metropolitan is elected that the laity and clerics do not approve of, there will be protests.

“The four citavis, I will use this expression, bishops, are not among those worth electing. Therefore, we appeal to the Holy Synod, most likely this will not happen, to reconsider its decision and give the opportunity to the Bishop of Agathopol, Hierotheus, to participate in the election. This mass support is clearly not liked by the majority in the Holy Synod. The statutes of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church are being persistently and systematically violated, as well as well-known traditions,” said Atanas Orachev, chairman of the “Orthodox Call” Association.
