The so-called “gambling case” against Vasil Bozhkov is already in court. After more than four years of investigation, the prosecutor’s office filed an indictment for participation in an organized criminal group for extortion, official and corruption crimes against Bozhkov and nine other persons, some of whom held high positions in the closed State Gambling Commission, writes bTV.
Bozhkov, who acted in collaboration with officials from the former Gambling Commission, is named as the organizer and head of the group.
According to the prosecutor’s office, as a result of their criminal activity, the state budget was damaged by nearly BGN 560 million from uncollected fees due under the Gambling Act.
According to Bozhkov, the “gambling case” is based on rumours.
“I expect that we will create a political movement and sweep away this solder.” I can’t be bothered when I haven’t done anything,” he said earlier this year after being questioned about the case.
This is the second indictment against Vasil Bozhkov after his surprising return last summer from Dubai, where he had been hiding from justice for over 3 years, writes BNR.
The other is in the so-called “criminal case” – for attempting and guaranteeing murder and rape.
Bozhkov has been under house arrest since September last year. The decision on this was made by the court. It is one of the gambling-related cases for which Bozhkov was detained after his return from Dubai in August.
