The former publisher of the tabloid “National Enquirer” was the first to testify in the trial against former US President Donald Trump in New York.

David Packer, 72, testified that during the 2016 presidential campaign, he had an agreement with Trump not only to post positive news about him and his campaign, but also to warn him in time of potential negative posts about him.

The accusation against the former president is that he falsified his business records to cover up the fact that he paid a former porn actress $130,000 to keep quiet about an affair between them.

Prosecutors asked the court to fine Trump for failing to comply with a court order to refrain from publicly attacking witnesses in the case, including actress Stormy Daniels and attorney Michael Cohen. The judge heard the motion and arguments, but deferred his response.
