After a 4-year investigation, the so-called “gambling case” against Vasil Bozhkov is already in court, bTV reports.
The prosecutor’s office filed an indictment for participation in an organized criminal group for extortion, official and corruption crimes against Bozhkov and nine other persons, some of whom held high positions in the closed State Gambling Commission.
As the organizer and leader of the group, it is Bozhkov who acted in collaboration with officials from the former Commission on Gambling.
According to the prosecutor’s office, as a result of their criminal activity, the state budget was damaged by nearly BGN 560 million from uncollected fees due under the Gambling Act.
According to Bozhkov, the “gambling case” is based on rumours.
This is the second indictment against him since his surprise return last summer from Dubai, where he had been a fugitive from justice for over 3 years.
The other charge is for attempted and abetting murder and rape.
Bozhkov has been under house arrest since September last year.
