Acting Minister of the Interior Kalin Stoyanov commented on whether proceedings had been initiated against him regarding the claims of Atanas Atanasov from the PP-DB that Stoyanov himself lived in a secret apartment and was connected to Niki Mitnicharya, citing an interrogation from 2023 under pre-trial proceedings of Stefan Bankov, brother of the arrested head of customs – Petya Bankova.

“I have no information that there was any proceeding against me other than what became public in late 2021, for which I had an indictment that was later dropped.”

Stefan Bankov held leadership positions in the Internal Security Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs from 2015 until June 2021, when he was removed from the post of director by the then Acting Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov. According to “Po sveta i wy nas” sources, during this period there were no reports against Stoyanov in the directorate headed by Bankov.

“Everything is easily verifiable about who, where and when he lived,” added Stoyanov.

When asked whether Boyko Rashkov and Asen Vassilev will be questioned about the affair with customs, the interior minister said:

“I have no idea who will be questioned when”.

“For the affair with the customs, I expect the investigation to come to an end”.

Regarding media publications, he commented:

“I have a sister. But she has been divorced since 2009 with the person in question. From then until now – 15 years, neither I nor members of my family have been in contact with him. I do not know where he works, what he does, where he lives. The Ministry of the Interior has nothing to do in the accusations of provocation against Dimitar Stoyanov, the law is for everyone.”

This was stated by the Acting Minister of Internal Affairs after the arrest of investigative journalist Dimitar Stoyanov, who threatened a man with a weapon after being stopped on the street, who later turned out to be an employee of the National Narcotics Agency.

From the “Bird” website, they believe that the arrest is related to an investigation into the former son-in-law of the minister of power, who posed as a tax man in order to extort a trader. However, there is no resolution to the case.

“I don’t know where he works, what he does and where he lives, and it’s none of my business,” said Kalin Stoyanov in reference to his sister’s ex-wife.

Asked about the interactive map that will be used during the elections, Stoyanov said:

“She played her part in the local elections and now she will be helping us. Where there are reports, how many have been processed, she will help us make decisions.”
