Intentional homicide is causing death on the road after the use of alcohol, drugs and speeding

“Protecting the lives and health of Bulgarian citizens is my personal commitment, responsibility and cause”. This was reminded in his post on social networks by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Kalin Stoyanov, who emphasized that he is firmly behind the proposals of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for changes in the Criminal Code, namely – causing death on the road after the use of alcohol or drugs, as well as with an exceeded speed to be considered premeditated murder.

“Focus” published Minister Stoyanov’s position on the Facebook social network without editorial intervention:

“The Ministry of the Interior increased road control and the results were not long in coming – the number of proceedings opened increased, a greater number of detected violations and we significantly increased the collection of fines. In the battle for saved lives, the intolerance of society towards violators gives me confidence. That is why I support the initiatives of the foundation “Angels on the road”. I am categorically behind the proposals of the Ministry of Interior to change the Criminal Code – to consider causing death on the road after using alcohol or speeding. We have long submitted proposals for amendments in the Road Traffic Act for a drastic increase in fines for individual violations on the road. I am convinced of the public power that can foster intolerance to hooliganism on the road,” wrote Kalin Stoyanov.

“Focus” recalls that a few days ago, prosecutors also demanded tough measures against drunk and drugged drivers. It is mandatory to temporarily revoke the license of motor vehicle drivers who cause death on the road after using alcohol and/or drugs, prosecutors from the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office have called. The state prosecution also insisted on extending the maximum period of arrest for such crimes, as well as the introduction of the possibility of collecting traffic data from mobile operators during the investigation of crimes, as well as the urgency of the expertise.
