The Ministry of Health sent an official message to the media related to the refusal of the prosecutor’s office to open a case against the director of “Pirogov” due to a lack of evidence of a crime.

“In connection with a decision received by the Ministry of Health from the Prosecutor’s Office refusing to initiate criminal proceedings, we inform you that:

The decree on refusal to initiate criminal proceedings regarding the executive director of UMBALSM “N. I. Pirogov” is based on a check of the findings contained in a report of the Internal Audit Unit at the Ministry of Health and a check report of the State Financial Inspection Agency. The reason for the refusal is the lack of data on a crime,” the announcement states.

Earlier this year, the State Financial Inspection Agency (SFI) established that there was no crime and no corrupt practices at Pirogov Medical Center, the medical facility reported. In a press release, the emergency hospital referred to the findings of the 93-page report, according to which there was no evidence of crimes, abuses, corrupt practices and/or damage.

At the end of last year, a scandal broke out between the management of N.I. Pirogov UMBALSM and the Minister of Health in the Denkov-Gabriel office, Prof. Hristo Hinkov. Then Hinkov announced that “Pirogov” had a loss of over BGN 30 million, followed by a personal explanation by the executive director, Dr. Valentin Dimitrov, and a protest by doctors from the hospital in support of the director. Prof. Hinkov fired Dr. Dimitrov, but the court stopped the procedure for his release.
