Representatives of the “Customs” Agency and the co-chairman of “Continuing the Change” and former finance minister Asen Vassilev are listening to the temporary parliamentary commission to investigate the corruption practices in the “Customs” Agency and Asen Vassilev’s possible role in them.
The former Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Zhivko Kotsev, was brought in as a defendant for participation in an organized criminal group, part of which are the former head of the “Customs” Agency, Petya Bankova, Marin and Stefan Dimitrovi, and in absentia – Nikolay Nikolov, nicknamed Pascal. Bankova has also been charged.
Georgi Gospodinov, head of the “Captain Andreevo” border crossing, currently working in another position, made a brief presentation on the topic. “I adhere to data that came out of the press center and in the media,” he announced and shared how the scandal affects him, his family and his relatives. Gospodinov pointed out that the results of the work of the employees of “Captain Andreevo” are indisputable.
“For three years, we managed to build a positive image of Captain Andreevo, which is evident from the results. We didn’t come here to brag, but they’ve been on the rise for the past 3 years,” he said.
“Against the background of all these results, something quite unpleasant happened for me and my colleagues. There was a press release from the Customs Agency, after which the next day staff transfers began. Some were posted over 100 km from their native places. In this press release said that there was information from external services about corrupt practices in the Bulgarian customs. Accusing officials who are conscientious affects their families,” Gospodinov pointed out.
