LIVE: Parliament has gathered a quorum, will the resignation of the Speaker of the National Assembly be voted on? – Worldwide and in our country

Parliament assembled a quorum after half an hour earlier there were not enough registered MPs. The Speaker of the Parliament Rosen Zhelyazkov proposed 2 additional points. As the first – provision of additional funds for “Mini Maritsa Iztok”, and as item 5 voting on his resignation.

After that, the people’s representatives voted to make Zhelyazkov’s resignation the first item, following Asen Vasilev’s proposal to rearrange the agenda.

PP-DB and BSP submitted a request for early release of Zhelyazkov for his overall behavior as the head of the institution and for systematic failure to implement the legislative program.

According to the PP-DB, Zhelyazkov abuses power and authority, and works in the interest of the GERB-DPS political bloc. Earlier, the resignation of the Speaker of the Parliament was also requested from “Vazrazhdane” with a specific motive – the point for the vote of no confidence in the official government was not allowed with the argument that it does not correspond to the Constitution.

GERB and DPS did not take seriously the request for the resignation of the Speaker of the National Assembly in the last hours of his work. Boyko Borisov defined it as emotional outbursts, and Delyan Peevski as populism.

Vazrazhdane accused PP-DB and BSP, which submitted the request for the resignation of Rosen Zhelyazkov, that they have an agreement with GERB-SDS and that is why 8 MPs from PP-DB and 6 from BSP did not register.

BSP leader Kornelia Ninova stated that they want the resignation of the Speaker of the Parliament because they are principled in demanding that the rules of the National Assembly be respected. They denied any interpretations that they had converged positions with PR-DB or Vazrazhdane by giving their signatures to both requests for resignation. Ninova commented that apparently Vazrazhdane did not collect enough signatures and therefore only the signatures of PP-DB and BSP were submitted to the National Assembly.
