Kremlin-controlled energy giant Gazprom has filed lawsuits in a Russian court against Czech energy company CEZ, Austria’s OMV Gas Marketing & Trading and Slovakian energy group ZSE, according to court documents cited by Reuters.
At this stage, there is no more information, the agency says.
Reuters reminds that Gazprom and some other Russian companies are trying to move lawsuits from international arbitration to Russian courts. Much of the controversy stems from the disruption of business relations between Russia and the West over Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine.
According to Czech energy giant CEZ, a Swiss arbitration court has begun hearing its claim for more than 1 billion Czech crowns (about $42.7 million) against Gazprom for lower-than-agreed gas supplies, the agency noted.
Austria, on the other hand, is looking to take more radical steps, including terminating OMV’s long-term contract to buy gas from Gazprom.
Earlier this week, the UK High Court ordered a subsidiary of Gazprom to stop suing the Italian bank UniCredit in Russia over an aborted gas project in the country.
