An emergency epidemic situation will not be introduced in the country because of whooping cough. The health authorities closely monitor the epidemiological situation and the regular vaccination of babies, children and pregnant women according to the immunization calendar. In some areas of the country, such as Veliko Tarnovo, pertussis vaccines have run out.
In the pharmacy network in Veliko Tarnovo and the region, vaccines against whooping cough have been missing since Wednesday.
“At the moment, I have also checked in the warehouses we work with, there are still no stocks of this vaccine. The vaccine ran out on Wednesday afternoon and since then no quantities have been received,” said pharmacist Yana Uzunova.
Experts are adamant that the dangerous infectious disease is spreading rapidly because of the refusal of mothers to vaccinate their children.
“Vaccination against whooping cough – almost zero, suddenly see 2002-2003 year jump in cases. It’s due to anti-vaxxers“, explained the mathematician from BAS Prof. Ognyan Kunchev.
“This is the result of a decade-long non-immunized population. I ask all patients and parents to trust their personal doctors, this immunization calendar was created as a result of many years of experience,” added Uzunova.
Scientists warn that if the health authorities do not take adequate measures, during the summer there will be thousands of people infected daily. “June-July will be the peak, as there will be around 3,000 infected per day,” warns Prof. Kunchev.
Schools are monitored daily for morbidity.
“Quarantine classes are below 0.3% for the whole country, less than 100 in the whole country, we are working together with the Ministry of Health, we have prepared guidelines for schools that will be distributed by RZI, the schools are working very well with the health authorities” , the Minister of Education, Galin Tsokov, is categorical.
