Officially, pregnant women will be vaccinated against whooping cough for free. This was announced by the line minister Galya Kondeva at a briefing.

“The Ministry of Health will provide an opportunity for all pregnant women, regardless of whether they are insured or not, to be immunized for free. This will happen in the RZI,” she added.

The immunization calendar is also updated, allowing the basic planned immunization against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis in newborns to start earlier – from the 6th week.

500 are the already registered cases in our country, with 4 cases for the same period last year, Kondeva pointed out. “This clearly shows the tendency for the epidemiological spread of the disease. Children are the most affected – they account for over 90% of all reported cases.”

A few days ago, the chief state health inspector Assoc. Angel Kunchev stated that by the end of the week he will request that an epidemic of whooping cough be declared throughout the country.

Earlier, the Minister of Education Galin Tsokov pointed out that the quarantined classes are below 0.3% for the whole country. According to him, each school will only decide how to organize training in cases of infected children.
