In order for the organization of these emergency immunization centers to become a fact, a change is required in the ordinance on immunizations, which is already ready as a text, but must be officially published in the State Gazette. This was said at a briefing in the Council of Ministers by the chief state health inspector Assoc. Angel Kunchev.
“The organizer is RZI, but depending on the possibilities, these centers can be located in the DKC, in a hospital or wherever it is most convenient for pregnant women. We are talking about the first working days after the Easter holidays. We have enough vaccines available,” he added.
By going through the immunization, pregnant women will ensure the development of anti-pertussis antibodies for their newborns and protect them from the disease.
“This will largely solve the problem with the most at-risk group. We are also working on providing diagnostics. We will probably add Burgas to the four centers in Varna, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Pleven, as there is also an opportunity there and the population is large enough. In these places, on the recommendation of the RZI, free PCR diagnostics will be done according to criteria that we have already sent them,” explained the chief state health inspector.
“For now, immunization clinics will be set up in every regional center. If there is a need, we are ready to organize outsourced or mobile clinics. The number of pregnant women in Bulgaria is not that large. We need to see what the interest in immunization is,” added Assoc. Kunchev.
