Officially, pregnant women will be vaccinated against whooping cough for free. This was announced by the competent minister Galya Kondeva. “The Ministry of Health will provide an opportunity for all pregnant women between the 26th and 37th week of gestation, regardless of whether they are insured or not, to be immunized for free. This will happen in RZI”, she added.
The immunization calendar of Bulgaria will also be updated. Vaccination against pertussis will now be allowed to start earlier – from the sixth week. The measure comes into effect after the Easter holidays, health authorities stressed, because the texts must be published in the State Gazette.
Vaccination offices will be opened in every regional city. Depending on the interest, the Ministry of Health is ready to make outsourced or mobile offices.
There are already over 500 registered cases in our country. Over 90% of them are in children. A few days ago, the chief state health inspector Assoc. Angel Kunchev stated that by the end of the week he will request that an epidemic of whooping cough be declared throughout the country.
Earlier, the Minister of Education Galin Tsokov revealed that the quarantined classes are below 0.3% for the whole country. According to him, each school will only decide how to organize training in cases of infected children.
