But relying on his strong character, able to solve any problem, if necessary with a blow on the table, betting on his sophisticated business acumen and skillfully maintained political image of an eternal winner through flawless use of the media, the majority of Americans, even those with the most conservative convictions, had forgiven him for his bedfellowships.
And that is why both they and many Western Europeans have been asking for a week what made the iron Republican Donald break through the $61 billion aid to Ukraine desired by his Democratic opponents and approve it? The people who believed in Trump are excited, what is the reason that forced him to spit on his character and turn the pancake, justifying himself with the nefarious and under all criticism allegedly imposed on his political rivals demand that the money be given to Kiev in the form of a loan? Which to everyone across and over the Ocean it’s clear won’t be brought back, right?
The journalist Federico Rampini, who is well aware of the affairs in the USA and has been an envoy there for years for the Italian media, indicated in an extensive correspondence for Corriere della Sera three reasons, in his opinion, for the bending of Donald Trump.
The first and most important was the pressure exerted on the ex-president of the United States and again a candidate for the head of state by the powerful military lobby, which, according to Rampini, in the last two presidential votes, made his subordinates put the ballot with his name in the ballot box. The interest of perhaps still the most powerful military-industrial complex in the world is clear – the huge part, perhaps 2/3 of the money for Ukraine, will remain in its enterprises, and the tens of billions will provide for years to come in addition to fat profits, also thus well-paid employment for hundreds of thousands of employees and workers.
For Rampini, the other factor that played a decisive role in turning the tables on Trump was the US intelligence chiefs. Which had presented Trump with an unfavorable economic and political outlook for the US and its NATO allies if Russia won the war in Ukraine. Moreover, such an end to the conflict would make his ambitions meaningless, if he became president again, he would put a spectacular end to it in 24 hours with some kind of ultimatum to Kiev and Moscow. In case of victory, Putin would not play his whistle at all, but would do the exact opposite – pressure him for other concessions. In addition, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress, Mike Johnson, hinted to Trump that he could have polished his image before the electorate and especially before the internal party opponents of the money for Kiev by insisting that it be given as a loan and not for free.
But for the French daily “Le Monde”, such justifications for the radical change of the line adopted more than 6 months ago by Trump, besides not gaining much faith, are too “conventional”, predictable, easy to invent and to be accepted by unreasonable heads. And most of all distracting from the prospect hanging like a sword of Damocles over the head of the ex-president that he will be stopped in the middle of the race for the White House with a conviction because of… his incorrigible lasciviousness! Which sentence can be pronounced as nothing in the trial that began on April 15 in New York, where the ex-president is brought to the court bench on the charge of “sexual aggression”. The prosecution is known to be basing its case on the testimony against Trump of porn actress Stormy Daniels, who claimed she was almost raped in 2006 by the then construction magnate and media mogul.
At first glance, according to lawyers, this is not a very dangerous accusation from the mouth of a porn actress, but the scary thing about Trump, according to the envoy to America of the Paris daily Peotre Smolar, is that a lawyer for Stormy Daniels is famous for her victories in the courtrooms of America Roberta Kaplan. The same one that last year already won a conviction for the former president for sexual assault and defamation against the journalist Elizabeth Jean Carroll, and he had to pay 83.3 million dollars in damages. So now the lawyer was able to win over him even the extremely dangerous bars for the candidacy, especially since she also had a recording of the ex-president’s false statements, which would completely “cut off his head”.
However, as long as the judicial composition and the jury, which for the media in America were almost all Democrats, do not receive an “above” order to let Trump run for the White House – fully deserved after he played on the whistle of the ruling party in the USA. It is interesting how this will happen – not with some light or acquittal sentence, as journalists claim, but with the judges letting, according to prominent rightists, the case drag on until after election day, November 5. Which in practice means that if he becomes president again, Trump will be granted immunity and will be able to file all possible personal lawsuits against him.
We’ll live, we’ll see, as they said somewhere, but the bad thing is that, regardless of the outcome of the New York trial, according to “Le Monde”, its very closure has already alienated a large part of his faithful electorate from the ex-president. Many of his supporters are also dismayed by the fact that Trump rejects abortion, which is loved by the majority of American women, and Joe Biden and his team have made the voluntary termination of unwanted pregnancy one of the main cards of their election campaign. That is why the Republican candidate now firmly intended to attract the gentle electorate to his side again by appointing as his vice president either the governor of South Dakota Christy Noem, or that of Arkansas – Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Intentions that may turn out to be promising.
