Today, about a thousand volunteers took part in clearing the flood-affected villages of Karlovy Vary. Over 90 heavy construction machines are also used in the work.
This morning, the volunteers who arrived in Karavelovo are officially 400, but their supposed number is even higher. Heavy equipment is also on site trying to clear yards and streets that still resemble a river bed.
Different packages of food also arrive in Karavelovo, but the greatest need is for manpower and additional machines.
The people who arrive are from all over the country.
“The sights are hard to bear, but because of the people who come, there is hope,” said one of the volunteers.
“We urgently need volunteers to clean the houses. There is also a need for heavy equipment to clean the streets. Every day things change dynamically, donors bring all kinds of food, for now we have enough food, it is distributed to all those in need “, said the coordinator of the Crisis Staff, Ivaylo Gagov Bulgaria ON AIR.
He emphasized that there is a constant need for drinking water.
“Bacteria start to develop in the mud and volunteers are injured, we have secured a medical team that is visiting the place. The tetanus vaccines have already been provided,” emphasized Gagov.
