The German aerospace center is looking for test participants, in which successful candidates will have to lie down for two months without getting up once. The remuneration will be 18,000 euros.
At first glance, not getting out of bed for two months, forgetting the alarm clock and not having to rush somewhere sounds like a good idea. But there’s a catch – the bed will be at a six-degree angle, so the ground astronauts’ heads will be below the level of their feet, all the time. In this position of the body to the head, there will be a rush of fluids, and the internal systems of the body will have to be reorganized. In addition, the load on the muscles will change.

Scientists will observe what happens to the human body when it is in a position close to that of real astronauts. The research is conducted so that there are no surprises during space missions. So astronauts will know better how to properly prepare for long flights.
Test participants will be divided into groups. In one, endurance and muscle strengthening exercises will be performed – lying down, of course. In the other group, the test subjects’ muscles will be shortened using electrical impulses. After comparing different techniques and results, scientists will be able to determine how best to keep the astronaut’s body alive.

Women and men between the ages of 24 and 55, with a height of 1.53 to 1.90 meters, with a body mass index (BMI) between 18 and 30, in good health, non-smokers and with good German can participate. The research will take place in Cologne, where the headquarters of the German Aerospace Center is located. After spending two months in bed, the participants will be extensively examined for another three months.
