After last week’s series of strong earthquakes, some of which reached magnitudes of 5.6, 4.0, 4.4 and 4.1 in Tokat, the temperature of the Sulusarai thermal spring water rose from 50 degrees to 54 degrees and its flow rate increased.
The mayor of Sulusaray District in Tokat County, Northern Turkey, Davut Kılıçı noted that the flow of hot spring water, which has a history of 2 thousand years, has increased significantly in recent days.
Kulac told Demirjoren Agency (DHA): “In the measurements made after the earthquakes, it was found that there 4-degree increase in hot spring water. The temperature that was 50 degrees is now 54 degrees. Never had such a temperature before. It had also happened before that it increased and decreased by 1-2 degrees seasonally. But there was never an increase of 4 degrees.
After the earthquake, no damage was found in the facilities of our spa. Our citizens can easily avail health services.
Scientists mentioned that this could happen after the earthquake,” he concluded.
A magnitude 5.6 earthquake that hit Sulusarai district of the city 3 days ago caused damage to many buildings in the districtand the subsequent tremors caused panic among the population in the Black Sea region of Turkey.
After the earthquake that also affected Yozgat, training was suspended for 1 day in Tokat and three regions of Yozgat.
The increase in the temperature of the hot spring water in Sulusarai revealed the need for further investigation of underground water resources and geothermal activities and in other Turkish areas.
The authorities are taking the necessary steps security precautions of infrastructure and tourist areas in the region.
