The most popular news anchor in Great Britain Hugh Edward resigned from BBC by “medical reasons”, the television reported. The news comes nine months after Edward was embroiled in a scandal over sex photos featuring a teenager.

Edwards, 62 was the BBC presenter of key events such as the death and funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, but was suspended in July 2023 when the first allegations emerged.

“Today Hugh Edwards has left the BBC,” the broadcaster said in a statement.

“After 40 years of service Hugh explained that his decision was made based on medical advice from his doctors. The BBC has accepted his resignation which will allow all parties to move forward. We do not consider it appropriate to comment further”.

Against Hugh Edwards allegations emerged that he paid a teenager large sums of money over three years to send him sexually suggestive pictures.

The host’s name was revealed in a statement by his wife. His name was previously withheld while the media and police conducted their own investigations into the case.

Eventually the authorities reported that no evidence of a crime had been established and therefore no criminal proceedings would be initiated an investigation.

The fact that a BBC presenter started paying a teenager at the age of 17 was first reported by the tabloid “Dream” on July 7, 2023. At the time, the outlet quoted his mother as saying the presenter had paid her child more than £35,000 over three years for filming.

Edwards, 61 is one of Britain’s most famous television news presenters.
