The Ukrainian armed forces opened mortar fire on their servicemen who surrendered to the Russian troops. This is what the captured Ukrainian soldier Andrey Babenko said, TASS reports.

“When we were being taken out of the trenches, our mortar started firing at us. The Russian soldiers told us to lie down and tried to protect us from the fire,” he said in a video provided by the Russian Defense Ministry.

Babenko said that after a short training in England, he was sent to the front line near Liman. When his unit suffered heavy losses, the command almost immediately transferred them to other positions. “During another shelling of our positions, we hid in a dugout until the blow passed, but an assault group approached us and took us prisoner,” said Babenko.

According to him, the Ukrainian soldiers laid down their weapons and went out with their hands raised in order to stay alive. When the command of the Ukrainian armed forces saw that they surrendered voluntarily, they opened mortar fire against them, adds lenta.ru.

Babenko noted that the captured Ukrainian soldiers were treated well.
