The report noted that on April 22, the Ministry of Defense in Moscow announced that Russian forces had captured the village of Novomihailovka, located south of Mariinka and northeast of Ugledar in the Donetsk region.
“Novomihailovka has limited military-strategic importance, but is on the way to other settlements that are located on both sides of the Sukhiye Yala river south of Donetsk,” explained British intelligence.
According to London’s military, it took Russian troops 73 days from entry to capture of the village (a total distance of less than five kilometers). The success is due to additional operating reserves. It shows the slow but gradually increasing progress that the Russian troops are making.
“In this direction, Russian troops will most likely seek to advance to the village of Konstantinovka, located two kilometers west of Novomykhaylovka. A further advance north of Ugledar may eventually allow them to bypass the city’s defenses, which led to “extremely high casualties among the Russian forces,” noted the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain.
After the capture of Avdeevka in February 2024, Russian troops gradually moved west. According to British intelligence, Russia is recruiting around 30,000 new soldiers to the army each month, allowing it to cover losses and continue the war against Ukraine.
