It is noted that Novomykhaylovka has limited military strategic importance, but is located on the road to other settlements that stretch on both sides of the Sukhyi Yali River in the southern part of Donetsk Oblast.

Russian forces reportedly entered the city on 9 February and reached its center by 24 March. The 79th Assault Taurian Brigade has said it took 30,000 Russian troops with the loss of 300 pieces of equipment during the six months of fighting on the approach to the city.

From entering to clearing the city, a total distance of less than 5 kilometers, it took Russian forces 73 days. This has benefited additional operating reserves.

According to British intelligence, this shows the slow but methodical progress of Russian forces. Along this axis, the Russian forces will probably seek to advance towards the town of Konstantinovka, 2 km west of Novomihailovka, reports news.bg.

The British MoD indicated that a further advance north of Ugledar could eventually enable the encirclement of the city’s defenses, which had caused extremely heavy losses to Russian ground forces.
