Harvey Weinstein’s overturned conviction outraged his victims

Hollywood stars who accused Harvey Weinstein of assault have reacted with outrage after the former film producer’s sex crime conviction was overturned in New York.

Among them are Roseanne Arquette, Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino. “Harvey was rightly convicted. It’s a shame the court overturned his conviction. As a survivor, I’m beyond disappointed,” wrote X Arquette. “I’m horrified!…? He’s a predator who has raped/hurt over 200 women!” Mira Sorvino also said.

“I woke up to this news. I feel more than ever how important it is to continue to break the silence about sexual predators and support victims when they speak out,” said Catherine Kendall, actress and Weinstein’s accuser.

“This is a continued failure of the justice system — and the courts — to take survivors seriously and protect our interests. (Manhattan District Attorney Alvin) Bragg is running for office in 2021 because his predecessor failed so many of us. We expect of him to go after Weinstein now,” Ambra Battilana Gutierrez, a model and Weinstein accuser, also noted.

“Let this be a reminder of how fake the American justice system is against women and victims of sexual assault and what it takes to ‘prove’ your truth in this world,” Amber Tamblyn snapped. “They will never change who we are. Blessings to all who gave their all spirit courage unity ,” Rose McGowan said.

Weinstein, who is also serving a separate 16-year rape sentence handed down in California, will face a new trial in New York.

We recall that an appeals court in New York overturned the rape conviction of the former Hollywood producer, which he received in 2020. The department concluded that the judge at the time made a mistake. He allowed the prosecution to introduce statements from women who alleged Weinstein assaulted them, even though they were not part of the indictment, and so the court ordered a new trial in the case.

Weinstein was once one of the most powerful men in Hollywood. Together with his brother Bob, they founded the film production and distribution company Miramax. Before the convictions, Harvey was one of the most powerful executives in the American film industry.
