The remuneration of the municipal councilors in Pazardzhik may be reduced if the proposal of their colleague Nikolay Pandezov is accepted. The draft decision envisages an amendment to the Rules for amending the organization of the activities of the Municipal Council, its committees and the interaction with the municipal administration.

According to the proposal, the remuneration of councilors will decrease more than twice compared to the current ones – from BGN 1,984.50 to BGN 882. This is 20% of the salary of the chairman of the city parliament, which is BGN 4,410.

As reasons, the petitioner cites the large debts of the municipality, inherited from the previous mayoral leadership – over BGN 50 million.

This requires the Municipal Council and Municipal Administration to work with the maximum limitation of expenses.

The work of municipal councilors should be largely for the public benefit free of charge, as each councilor can freely exercise his profession and receive remuneration for it.

In this way, for a 4-year term, the funds saved for the Municipality will be in the amount of BGN 2,160,000, Pandezov reasoned.
