Four more children are infected with whooping cough in Plovdiv. Baby get well…

--

Eight children have become infected with whooping cough in Plovdiv, reports the Regional Inspectorate in the city.

A one-year-old and 10-month-old boy is being treated at home for whooping cough, as the infection is also known. The other two cases are of school-aged children – an 8-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy. All three children have been vaccinated and did not require hospital treatment.

More serious, however, is the condition of a one-year-old and four-month-old girl who was admitted for treatment at Plovdiv UMBAL with pneumonia. His family recently returned from Germany and the child has missed immunizations. The test the doctors did was positive for whooping cough, even though the child had been given a six-component vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, polio and Haemophilus influenzae a month ago.

“Today, all the samples taken so far will be sent to the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases in Sofia, and after the results we will analyze the situation. We are ready for any development,” said the head of the “Anti-epidemic control” directorate at RZI – Plovdiv – Dr. Tanya Uchordzhieva.

In connection with the rapid spread of the infection, in the NOVA studio, the chief state health inspector Assoc. Angel Kunchev stated that there is also an option for free testing for the disease. For Sofia, this option is, in addition to the NCZPB, also the laboratory of the Metropolitan RZI, which works every day and does free tests.

For people living far from Sofia, today the Ministry of Health must make a decision of the Ministry of Health to allocate funds to the Regional Health Inspections in Varna, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Pleven, where there are laboratories at the university hospitals, which will conclude contracts with the RZI and more from they should start this activity on Monday, explained Prof. Kunchev. He clarified, however, that the tests will be free, but at the discretion of the epidemiologist in the relevant RZI. “We have given them the criteria, the important thing is to orientate when they are severe cases, unclear cases, when there is a problem with the immunization status – for all these people it will be free of charge,” the state inspector general also said.

We remind you that paid tests are done in all laboratories. The lowest price is BGN 60 per person, which puts many families in difficulty who have doubts that they have caught the infection.
