Cherries at a price of BGN 50 per kilogram are already sold in our country. The record price is held by a stall at the Thursday market in Plovdiv.

The owner claims that the fruits are his own production – he plucked them from a tree in his yard and does not allow our team to photograph the goods.

The price of cherries definitely startles people, especially the older ones.

“Why should I look at them, I don’t have that much money to buy them. For some, they are cheap, for us pensioners, not. We will wait for them to become cheaper even then”, says Ivanka Mollova.

The neighboring market stall also sells cherries, but for BGN 40 per kilogram. However, they are imported from Greece.

The seller says that he has been charging for several days and despite the price, the goods are sold. Some take 100 grams, and others much more.

“They can take both two and three kilos, there are people. There are passengers for every train, there are people with opportunities and they take the more expensive one,” says one of the sellers at the Thursday market.

Native cherries are also available on the market – BGN 25 per kilogram from Brestovitsa, and BGN 15 – from Brestnik. There is no lack of buyers, say people from the neighboring stalls.

Because of the warm weather, the market will be full of native cherries at significantly lower prices for up to two weeks, cherry orchard owners say.

Producers fear frost and wonder how they will protect the trees, as the fire department does not allow fires around them, bTV reported.
