The name of the doyen among Bulgarian conductors, Georgi Dimitrov, is very active in the concert posters and in the recording plan of the Symphony Orchestra of the BNR this season. On April 26 at 7 p.m. in the “Bulgaria” hall, the maestro will lead a concert under the motto “On the eve of Easter”.

The famous piece “Adagio” by Tommaso Albinoni will contribute to a suitable mood before the Holy Week, after which the pianist Vesco Stambolov, who arrived especially for the event from Barcelona, will solo in the Concerto for piano and orchestra in D minor by Johann Sebastian Bach.

“For me, Bach’s music is the Fifth Gospel,” says the performer, who has in his collection all of the composer’s piano concertos recorded in string quartet versions. Listen to an interview with Vesco Stambolov in the second sound file.

The culmination of the evening will be the performance of “Stabat Mater”, D. 383, unknown to the Bulgarian audience, by Franz Schubert, for which the young singers Stefani Krasteva – soprano, Mihail Mihailov – tenor and Viktor Krastanov – bass are invited as soloists. They will be accompanied by the Mixed Choir of the BNR, prepared by Lubomira Alexandrova. This musical rarity has not been heard in our country since the performance in Ruse in the mid-1980s.

Conductor Georgi Dimitrov told more details about the program and about his love for Schubert’s music in the program “Allegro vivache” on “Horizon”. Listen in the first sound file.
