19 new convector stoves for a total of BGN 8,500 have already been purchased for the new building, which was built at the Bulgarian base in Antarctica. From a company – an importer of Scandinavian electrical appliances, they assisted with specifying the technical specifications. The Telegraph has learned that the Norwegian manufacturer’s offices have confirmed that the electronics in the Wi-Fi thermostats will survive the cold near the South Pole.

“These stoves have also been used in huts near the Arctic Circle, where temperatures remain as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius. In the end, it was decided that we do not need to replace the electronic thermostats with mechanical ones,” Lachezar Yordanov, one of the consultants who assisted the team of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute (BAI), commented to “Telegraph”.

Reduction

The Bulgarian importer of electrical appliances also made a solid trade discount for the native Antarctic residents. Without the discount, the amount that had to be paid for the appliances was over BGN 10,000. The stoves will leave in September for Varna, where they will be loaded on the scientific research ship “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”.

“We have yet to furnish the new building. There will also be several specialized laboratories where the scientists will work, and they must be heated. Other equipment, furniture, racks are to be purchased. We are also looking for sponsors, we still don’t have a budget for the next expedition”, commented Prof. Hristo Pimpirev, the chairman of the Board of Directors of BAI, to “Telegraph”.

Edition

Prof. Pimpirev also revealed that the book “Antarctic Hitchhiker” is already out of print and a new, supplemented edition is about to be printed. “We also published it in English and there is serious interest, which makes me happy,” added Pimpirev, who was in Plovdiv yesterday for another meeting with readers and friends.

“We also show the guests our nototenia fish, which we brought from Fr. Livingstone to the Natural History Museum in Plovdiv. We transferred her in a canister on the research vessel, and then with an aquarium. It is important that more people see it, and especially children, who get excited and want to become researchers,” Prof. Pimpirev also told “Telegraph”.
